ANGAIR participates in a wide range of environmental projects in conjunction with Parks Victoria, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Surf Coast Shire and Alcoa of Australia Limited who has a lease over a large area of heathland to the north of Anglesea.
Some of these projects include rehabilitation of disused gravel pits, restoration of eroded tracks and creek crossings, and planting of indigenous species.
ANGAIR works with many volunteer groups such as students from the Santa Monica campus, near Eastern View, of St Bernards Catholic College Essendon who have successfully collaborated with ANGAIR on environmental projects at Fairylands, Soapy Rocks, sand dunes at Anglesea Main Beach and the Heathland above the Anglesea Surf Club.
Restoring Moonah Woodland near the Art House
ANGAIR has been successful in obtaining a $5,500 grant from Coast Action/Coastcare to restore the Moonah woodland near the Art House.
We had a working bee at the site in April, removing resprouted and young seedlings of mirror bush that germinated a year after our initial clearing of weeds. The site is recovering very well from the massive weed invasion that has occurred in the last twenty years.
