On Tuesday, January 16, a celebration was held to mark the official handover of 6405ha of the former Alcoa lease into the Great Otway National Park.
ANGAIR has been protecting native vegetation around Anglesea and Aireys Inlet for almost 50 years and we were delighted at the government initiative to put the lease area into the national park so that it is secure and protected.
Margaret MacDonald gave a history of the Anglesea Heath Consultation Committee, which worked to protect the area for many years, and cut the ribbon.
The highlight of the afternoon was when a very large tiger snake came across the road and climbed into the top of the spare tyre cavity under a Parks vehicle!
