Members of ANGAIR subgroup, Friends of Aireys Inlet Coastal Reserve, were saddened to hear of the recent death of Peter Godfrey.
Peter was a keen and active weeder in our group, despite his chronic illness. A big man in body and mind, he would come to Aireys whenever he could leave his research at Monash University, and divert his attention to attacking the tea-tree, hybrid wattles and masses of polygala in the area, particularly the latter, at a place we now refer to as Peter’s Polygala Corner. Over several years, together with fellow member and sister-in-law, Lecki Ord, he cleared large areas of woody weeds from the reserve north of Sandy Gully.
We miss his energy and humour greatly.
