The Committee has received notification that the Angahook Caladenia Caladenia maritima has been formally added as a threatened species to Schedule 2 of the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.

The species was first recorded in Anglesea in 1998, and is endemic to the area. It previously had been listed under the Australian Government Orchid Recovery Plan

 

In addition to the plantings at the ANGAIR re-vegetation site at Soapy Rocks, Pt Roadknight,  members have participated in three Community planting days in Anglesea.

The first was at the new Skateboard Park next to the Lions Playground, the second at the newly opened Moonah Park playground adjacent to the Anglesea main beach car park and the third at the  new CFA Station. Thanks to all members who participated in these plantings

There is one more planting day scheduled in out current calendar at the Anglesea Primary School on Thursday, 8 August at 9.30 a.m. Any ANGAIR member who would like to join in the project would be very welcome.

ANGAIR has been represented at the Surf Coast Shire Workshops on the Anglesea Ocean Road Study, and has emphasised the importance of maintaining the natural environment, landscape and indigenous vegetation.

 

Annual Wildflower Weekend & Art Show

September is Show month, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 to be precise. This annual display of wildflowers, and art depicting features of the natural environment, attracts many visitors for this glimpse of the beauty of the internationally significant Anglesea heathlands.

The show is our major activity for the year, and we are seeking help from our members and friends in setting up the show on Thursday 19 and Friday 20, and in the many activities that keeps the show running smoothly. Members have always found show participation to be a very enjoyable experience.
