Currawong Falls, 12 km approx., medium grade
This is a moderate and variable walk, starting at the Distillery Creek Picnic Grounds and nature walk. It begins beside Distillery Creek then climbs gently up to a flat section along the edge of Melaleuca Swamp. At the end of the swamp there is ferny vegetation and a bridge crossing. The track then becomes narrower and steeper, passing a small waterfall and continues to wind up to Currawong Falls (which are usually dry). After the falls, the climb continues steadily on a well-formed track up the side of the valley, reaching a ridge from where there are good views of the wooded the hills to the north. The track crosses Loves Track near the trig point followed by a gentle descent through messmate forest. Glimpses of the sea appear through the trees, opening into a spectacular view of Aireys Inlet before a steeper and partly rocky descent. The track returns to the picnic ground along the south side of Ironbark Gorge.
Meet at Aireys Inlet Hall 9.30 am. Bring morning tea and lunch.
